American Legion Post 25’s Memorial Day Event was Amazing

Lake Placid American Legion Post 25’s Memorial Day Event

Greetings,
Last Monday was Memorial Day, and Post 25 outdid itself!

On Saturday, May 24, Post 25 volunteers met at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Placid to place American flags on the tombstones of military veterans.

On Monday during the Memorial Day service, Commander Fred Pierce gave a rousing speech about service to country and duty. Denise Williams, 2nd Vice Commander, has a commanding public speaking voice and delivered a tribute to our Vets who served and those who gave all. The Sebring VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard made a wonderful presentation as well.

Lake Placid High School student Serenity sang the Billy Ray Cyrus song, “Some Gave All,” and the National Anthem.

Local mural artist Keith Goodson and his parents were on hand to dedicate our new mural. Keith’s first Post 25 mural was completed and dedicated in September 2023. Keith’s second mural depicts our military fighting men from WW-I to today, a big American flag, an Army helicopter, and a WW-I Army battle tank.

Afterwards, everyone was invited to the backyard grille for hot dogs and burgers, free of charge. Post 25 had well over 100 attendees, and a great time was had by all!
