Queen of Hearts Rules

Post 25’s “2024 / 2025 Rules for
Our Queen of Hearts Game”

Queen of Hearts is a Fundraiser.                                               It is run to support the post and its Vet Charities.

Participation in Post 25 Queen of Hearts games is for MEMBERS ONLY.

Legion, Son’s, and Auxiliary Membership: Your American Legion membership MUST be paid up-to-date and active. (You can renew your Membership at the Bar). 2024 / 2025 Membership dues are $45.00 per year.

Drawings: Every Friday at 8:00 PM

Tickets: During the week, tickets are available at the bar. Or, you can buy your tickets on Friday night before the drawing. Ticket sales for the week STOP at 7:30 PM Friday.

Ticket Prices: One strip of six tickets for $5.00 / three strips of 6 tickets (total of 18 tickets) $10.00 / seven strips of 6 tickets (total of 42 tickets) for $20.

If you know you will not be here for the drawing: If you buy tickets before the Friday drawing and know that you will not be in attendance Friday night, you must write your name, phone number, and the number you want on the back of the ticket. You DO NOT have to be present to win but stay close to your phone on a Friday night. We will call you on the number you provide.

Winning Card Payouts: If you pull a Queen card that is a Queen of Diamonds, Queen of Spades, or Queen of Clubs; the payout is $300.

If you pull a Joker Card (there are two Joker cards), the Payout is $300.

If you pull any other card, the payout is $100.

Anytime the 2nd Joker is picked, the $300 payout will be made, the board will be closed, the Pot money will roll over, and a NEW BOARD will be started the following week.

The winning prize grows weekly depending on the previous week’s ticket sales. 60% of the weekly ticket sales are added to the next week’s Grand Prize. The remaining 40% goes to fund the next game, to support Post 25, and our work to help Veterans.

Example: If in one-week ticket sales are $1,000, $600 (60%) is added to the next week’s Grand Prize.

The remaining 40% is held back so that after the board has a winner, there is money set aside to start the next game. There must be money held back to cover the start of a new game.

If ALL of the money collected is used to start the next game and the Queen of Hearts card is pulled quickly, there’s no “Start Money” for the next game. Then, to start a new game, it would be an EXPENSE for Post 25, instead of an income generator.

Queen of Hearts is a fundraiser:  40% of the proceeds go for the funding of the next game. Once the next game’s funding is secured, as the game continues, additional funding help support Post 25 and our veteran-related charity organizations.

All members are invited to the monthly General Meetings: Post 25’s monthly General Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at 6 PM. Join us in our monthly meetings and you will see how Post 25 decisions are made.

Winnings & Tax Liabilities:

* The winner’s name will be posted on our website.

* All winners are responsible for paying the applicable taxes on any prize they win.

* All prizes over $600.00 will be paid by check.

* Post 25 will issue the winner a tax form “W2G”, which will require the winner to provide his/her social security number. Do not forget to include this when you have your yearly taxes prepared, or you will be inviting the attention of the IRS later down the road.

* No prize will be paid until the W2G information is provided.

* If a WINNER is unwilling to fill out a W2G, the prize will revert to the Post 25 Queen of Hearts Pot and a new game will start.

* For prizes of $5,000.00 or greater, Post 25 is required to withhold the “IRS Backup Withholding Tax”, currently set at 24%; as per IRS rules and regulations.

* NOT reporting income can cause serious IRS trouble.

* If you don’t like the tax liability issue, don’t play.

Good luck and we will see you all at Post 25!
