Important Information From PROJECT: VetRelief

Greetings,
The amazing people from PROJECT: VetRelief gave a presentation at Post 25 yesterday. Some of you may have recently heard Commander Pierce talk about the issue of veteran suicide.

A study released in 2022 found that as many as 44 veterans die on average per day from suicide when accounting for overlooked causes of death that are aligned with suicidal and self-harm behavior, which is 2.4 times greater than the official estimate.

Reference article from MilitaryTimes.com, HERE.

The good news from the PROJECT: VetRelief presentation is that there is a lot of help for Vets and their families.

Below are places to reach out to for assistance, as well as some things for all of us to remember if we know a troubled Vet.

St. Vincent de Paul Homelessness Assistance, Lakeland, Florida / 863-608-7078

St. Vincent de Paul Homelessness Assistance, Sebring, Florida / 727-253-5705

Veterans Council of Highlands County / https://www.facebook.com/VCOHC/

Highlands County Champion For Children Foundation / 863-446-0058

IF YOU ARE WITH AN UPSET VET
AND YOU CANNOT
CALM THE PERSON DOWN,
Call / 211, 988, or 911.

Stay with the person, if you can. Keep telling them,
“I see you. I hear you. Let’s work this out together.”
